SUNUM hosted a one-day workshop entitled “Advanced Electron Microscopy in Drug Delivery Systems” on April 16, 2026 for NanoBio4Can MSCA Cofund fellows.

Participants were provided with both theoretical and hands-on training on advanced electron microscopy techniques used for the characterization of drug delivery systems. The program covered the fundamental principles and applications of FIB-SEM (Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy) technology, as well as TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) imaging methods and contrast mechanisms. Practical sessions were conducted on the characterization of polymer-based drug delivery systems and nanoparticles. Participants gained hands-on experience in imaging, cross-section preparation and analysis, elemental mapping, and data interpretation using FIB-SEM and TEM/STEM techniques. Through practical studies involving PLGA (poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid)) microparticles and functionalized gold nanoparticles, the role of advanced microscopy techniques in the detailed investigation of the structural and compositional properties of drug delivery systems was demonstrated.

The training was delivered by Dr. Büşra Tuğba Çamiç, Dr. Selçuk Birdoğan, Dr. Süleyman Çelik from the SUNUM Technical Specialists and attended by Nemany Abdelhamid Nemany Hanafy, PhD, Ankush D. Sontakke, PhD, Mina Masoudi, PhD and Saif Ullah Afridi, PhD
