Prof. Fazilet Vardar, who had been the Director of SUNUM Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center since 2017, handed over her position to Prof. Alpagut Kara as of June 30, 2024. SUNUM operates under the scope of Law No. 6550 on Supporting Research Infrastructures.
Prof. Alpagut Kara, who has taken on the role of Acting Director, previously served as the Chairman of the Board and continues to serve as a Member of the Board at SUNUM.
As the SUNUM Family, we would like to thank Prof. Vardar, who transformed SUNUM from an academic research center into a "Focused and Sustainable" Center that can create socio-economic added value, and turned it into a globally exemplary and leading Center of Excellence that is open to all stakeholders and constantly developing, and we wish Prof. Alpagut Kara success in his new role.
About Prof. Alpagut Kara
Prof. Alpagut KARA, graduated from Istanbul Technical University/Turkey as a Metallurgical Engineer in 1988. He had his MSc degree in Engineering Ceramics from University of Leeds/UK in 1991. He received his PhD degree from University of Bath/UK in 1999. Since then, he has been working as a lecturer in the department of Materials Science and Engineering of Anadolu University (recently as Eskisehir Technical University)/Turkey. His research activities are in both processing of industrial and advanced ceramics and composites. Up till now, he has published around 100 papers in international and national journals and conferences. He has also been inventor in several national and international patents. Apart from these academic activities, he is one of the co-founders of MDA Advanced Ceramics, a spinoff company, being active in the development of advanced ceramics and composites for ballistic, wear and cutting tool applications since 2004. In addition, he is also the vice president of Turkish Ceramic Society (TSD).
