A collaborative research article co-authored by SUNUM researchers, Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Kemal Bayazıt and Dr. Barun Kumar Chakrabarti, together with teams from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, New York University, and the University of Waterloo, has been published in Chemical Engineering Journal.

The study titled "An electrochemical reactor that enables continuous and uniform flow of high-viscosity slurry for semi-solid flow batteries" presents a screw pump-inspired electrochemical reactor that enables semi-solid flow batteries to operate with continuous, high-viscosity slurry flow, addressing the narrow-channel constraints of conventional designs. Controlled rotational transport provides smooth, stable delivery with precise velocity control. Using a LiFePO₄ slurry catholyte (10 wt% LFP, 2.4 wt% Ketjenblack) paired with a lithium metal anode, the system demonstrates stable cycling for over 400 hours at 0.5 mA cm⁻² with ~80% energy efficiency in both static and flow modes. Finite-element simulations further indicate ultra-low-flow and ultra-low-power operation.
