About Prof. Şefik Süzer

Prof. Dr. Şefik Süzer completed his bachelor's degree from the Department of Chemistry at Middle East Technical University in 1970 and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976. He conducted postdoctoral research at the Universities of Sydney and Freiburg. After serving at METU, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Bilkent University, where he is currently a faculty member.

Prof. Süzer has served as the Chair of the Chemistry Department at Bilkent University at various times and has spent sabbatical research years at the Universities of Virginia, Michigan, and Delaware.

Prof. Dr. Şefik Süzer has been honored with the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, the Fulbright Research Fellowship, the TÜBİTAK Incentive Award, and the TÜBİTAK Science Award. He was elected as a full member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 1993 and served as a member of the TÜBİTAK Science Board from 2000 to 2008. In 2010, he was elected as a member of the American Vacuum Society.

Working in the fields of surface science and spectroscopy, Prof. Süzer focuses particularly on the analysis of XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) charge phenomena and the development of the Operando-XPS method. His research group has made significant contributions to the development and application of Operando-XPS in the characterization of materials and devices, including thin films, solids, and ionic liquid interfaces.
