In the Academic Entrepreneur's Journey training to be held at SUNUM on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, intellectual Property Rights Expert Mustafa Çakır and Academic Entrepreneur Assoc. Prof. Serdal Temel will provide information on the difficulties encountered in the process of transforming innovative business ideas into commercial products/services, solutions, application to entrepreneurship support programs and many other interesting subjects in the journey from academia to entrepreneurship.

The training, in which academic entrepreneurship in theory and in practice will be discussed, is open to all academics, researchers, doctoral and graduate students who want to improve themselves.

The training will be carried out physically in foyer of the SUNUM Building and is free of charge.

About Mustafa Çakır

Mustafa Çakır worked for 8 years as Intellectual Property Rights and Licensing Manager at Ege University EBİLTEM Technology Transfer Office, Turkey's first Technology Transfer Office, and then worked at Sabancı University Industry Collaborations and Technology Licensing Office (ILO) and INOVENT Technology Transfer Office for 5 years as a Patent Attorney and Portfolio Manager, and has been involved in Patent Portfolio Management, analysis of patent data, commercialization of early-stage technologies, management of intellectual property and licensing processes, management of entrepreneurship programs and development of academic spinoff companies. He also actively works on the development of intellectual property strategies, patent commercialization, patent analytics and gamified patent research techniques for universities, companies and startups. Throughout his career, he has ensured the creation of a total of 22 patent commercialization success stories. A graduate of Dokuz Eylül University, Industrial Engineering Department, Çakır completed overseas education programs in the field of patent and technology transfer at EPO, NIH Technology Transfer Office (USA), London-based UCLB and Cambridge Enterprise. Serving as EU IPR Helpdesk Turkey Ambassador for 5 years, Çakır is one of the founding partners of Patent Effect company https://www.patenteffect.com/. Holding the pulse of Turkey's patent-innovation and entrepreneurship through Turkey's largest patent platform www.patentraporu.com,  Mustafa Çakır is also the chairperson of LES Turkey association. According to the list announced by IAM in 2022, he is among the top 300 intellectual property strategists in the world.

About Assoc. Prof. Serdal Temel

Dr Serdal Temel earned his PhD from Dokuz Eylul University, Department of Economics. He has worked at Ege University Science and Technology Center betwen 2000 and 2018 as an expert for university-industry cooperation, technology transfer, R&D, and innovation projects. Dr Temel worked as a manager of the Aegean Innovation Relay Centre (IRC-Ege), which was selected the best TTO within the EU by the European Commission in 2008. Currently he is the Manager of Enterprise Europe Network-Izmir. Dr. TEMEL has taken active role over 35 national and EU projects and has more than 40 articles and book chapters on innovation, R&D, university-industry collaboration and entrepreneurship. Dr Temel has published in the international journals such as Regional Studies, International Journal of Innovation Management, The International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, International Journal of Innovation Science, Journal of Technology Management& Innovation, European Journal of Innovation Management. Dr Temel teaches innovation and entrepreneurship in Faculty of Engineering.  Recently he is running projects to measure impact of universities on the regional economic growth via innovation and technology transfer. Currently he is Visiting Associate Professor at Southampton University Business School. Dr Temel is also recipient of prestigious Newton Advanced Fellowship twice. Dr Serdal Temel is also co-founder of a start-up and working on to develop medical devices and new business model innovation for the health sector.
