Dr. Safacan Kölemen, one of the supervisors of the NanoBio4Can program,which is coordinated by SUNUM and aims to develop innovative nano-biotechnology-based therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment,will speak on “The Rise of Chemiluminescence: Next-Generation Probes for in vivo Imaging.

About Dr. Safacan Kölemen

Dr. Kölemen received his BSc in Chemistry from Bilkent University in 2008 and completed his MSc in the same department. He earned his PhD in Materials Science and Nanotechnology from the National Nanotechnology Research Center at Bilkent University in 2014. He then conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, where he focused on developing fluorescent molecular sensors. In 2017, Dr. Kölemen joined Koç University’s Department of Chemistry, where he founded the Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology Laboratory. His research centers on tumor-selective drug candidates for phototherapy and the design of fluorescent and chemiluminescent agents for bioimaging applications. He has received several prestigious early-career research awards, including BAGEP, TÜBA-GEBİP, METU Parlar Foundation, and TUBITAK Incentive, and serves on the editorial advisory boards of ACS Central Science and ACS Bio & Med Chem Au.
