With the development of the food industry and the globalization of food trade, it is seen that the methods of food production and distribution have changed over the years. In addition to the effects of population growth on the future of food, the sustainability of the food produced has become extremely important today. Nanotechnology, modern biotechnology and new food production technologies are among the topics that researchers are interested in to meet these needs.

Dr. S. Mert Selimoğlu will talk about food biotechnology and outstanding food trends. To register for the Nano Open Webinar at 11:00 on May 25, 2022, otolab.sabanciuniv.edu

About Dr. S. Mert Selimoğlu

S. Mert Selimoğlu graduated from Abant İzzet Baysal University, Department of Biology- Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2006, and completed his master's degree in Ege University Bioengineering Department with a focus on "Monoclonal antibody production by the immobilized hybridoma cells via alginate encapsulation". Working as a researcher on “Recombinant Antibody Development and Production in scFv Form against Vimentin Fragments” at Aarhus University, Department of Molecular Engineering in Denmark, Selimoğlu took part in the “Myocardial Infarction Diagnostic Kit Development”project after returning to Turkey at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine, with the support of the East Marmara Development Agency. In this context, he carried out studies on “Production of recombinant Creatine Kinase-MB and Troponin-I antigens and antibody generation against these antigens”. Selimoğlu, who studied the project "Development of Recombinant Antibody in Fusion Form Using Tumor Differentiation Factor Protein Against Breast Tumor" during his PhD, started to work as a Cell Line and Process Development R&D Specialist at Pakbiomer (Pakmaya AŞ).

In addition to working as a principal and researcher in national and international projects, Selimoğlu, who has various national and international patents with the methods and strains he developed in the field of food biotechnology during his 5-year industrial career at Pakmaya, currently works for Cargill Turkey as a Process Design Lead at the Business Development Department.
