Yet another public-private sector-university collaboration has taken place in Turkey. A signing ceremony was held at Sabancı University for the “New Energy Technologies Unit” that will be established under the collaboration between Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM), which operates as a National Research Infrastructure of Turkey, and TEMSA, one of the leading electrical bus builders in the world.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBİTAK, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Leblebici, President of Sabancı University, Cevdet Alemdar, President of Sabancı Holding Industry Group, Tolga Kaan Doğancıoğlu, CEO of TEMSA, Prof. Dr. Alpagut Kara, Chair of SUNUM Board of Directors, and Prof. Dr. Fazilet Vardar, Director of SUNUM, in addition to managers and researchers of the two institutions.

The New Energy Technologies Unit will work on new technologies and applications to develop battery technologies in electric vehicles, which are becoming widespread day by day in the world and in our country.

In the first phase of the collaboration, the goal is to improve the life of battery packs, develop domestic and national supercapacitor technologies in our country, and to ensure their commercialization by TEMSA, while planning to offer these technologies to other electrical vehicle builders in our country in the future. All the projects and applications will make considerable contributions to decreasing our country’s foreign dependence in the field of energy, thanks to improvements in electrification processes.
